MONOLITH CONCRETE
SHIFT KNOBS
After launching the first concrete shift knob the French architect and designer SOPHIE DRIES and GARAGISME present their new automotive accessory: the MONOLITH marble jack stand (or car stand). When choosing marble for MONOLITH, Sophie Dries ignites tensions and paradoxes. The stone used traditionally for opulent architecture finds a new use in a mundane mechanic’s accessory. Selected for its density and resilience, marble defies the car’s obsolescence and our own mortality. Shaped like a mountain, a tube in champagne gold-plated steel erects from its’ top, supporting the car’s axles. For MONOLITH, Dries also choses to use the Grand Empire marble of an Italian quarry. The unwanted stone finds a new life in MONOLITH.
